Velvet is anything but an ordinary student at Columbine High school. She has tattoos covering her body, old spray painted army boots, and rags as clothes. In a way Velvet reminds me of this car. She is rugged on the outside due to all the hardships and trials she has been through; yet inside she still shines. It takes Caelum awhile to see the shine on the inside of Velvet, but when he does see it, its not like anything he has ever experienced. She is bright and full of amazing ideas, she just struggles to show them. Her whole life has been a constant battle; therefore she does not trust people easily. After opening up to Caelum the reader sees a side of Velvet that one may not ever thought existed. She begins to write and share her experiences in her childhood allowing not only for people to understand why she is the way she is but also it allows Velvet to develop her true writing ability. Her character reminds me of many people at Willis High School, they are trapped in their appearance never allowed beyond that. Their outside might be rusted and dull but inside they shine brighter than one can expect.
